Tugboat In Fatal Crash Raised From Hudson River

The sunken tugboat that collided with a construction barge near the Hudson River on March 12 was raised from the river on Thursday morning.

The tugboat in Saturday's crash, which was not involved with the new TZB construction projected, was escorting a barge with a crane and two other tugboats and traveling south toward Jersey City at the time of the accident.

Salvage operations to remove the sunken tugboat started at 7 a.m. 

The body of crew member Harry Hernandez, 56, of Staten Island was trapped inside the tugboat.

Fellow crew members Paul Amon of Bayville, NewJersey, 63, and Timothy Conklin, of Westbury on Long Island, 29, were also killed.

Twenty-one workers were on the stationary barge when the crash occurred. None were injured.

More than 5,000 gallons of fuel spilled when the tugboat crashed into the barge.
