Summer Concert Series a Hit at Waterfront

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Blankets and chairs dotted the waterfront Wednesday night as the village’s Summer Music Concert hosted another free concert.

"People absolutely love them," music series founder Mark Morganelli said of the program, which is in its twelfth year. "They look forward to them all winter."

Morganelli has been presenting concerts in the Jazz Forum Arts more than two decades. Jazz Forum Arts is a not-for-profit that he helped found 26 years ago.

The weather was perfect for the concert by the river with temperatures in the 80's all day and cooling off just a bit later on. Some shows have been rained out due to inclement weather but the sun has brought out the crowds.

"We go out here we get 500 to 1,000 people," Morganelli said.

Nanny Assis, a native of Brazil, was the featured musician Wednesday night and he played some of his favorite songs with his band.

Morganelli said concerts are a great activity for people over the summer.

"Here we are, 26 years later, continuing to do free concerts and we've got 28 free concerts this summer," he said.

The Dobbs Ferry Summer Music Series runs all summer long and will continue Wednesday, July 6 at Waterfront Park. For more information on the Jazz Forum Arts and a concert schedule click here.
