Eisenman is a painter who is reinventing the figurative tradition in Western art and using expressive human figures to offer critical commentary on a range of social issues.
Eisenman and the others will receive a no-strings-attached $625,000 grant for their cutting-edge work that is transforming their fields.
Eisenman's paintings focus on gender, sex, and sexuality—particularly female and lesbian sex and sexuality.
Over the course of more than four decades, and working with various mediums, including painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking, Eisenman has restored the representation of the human form to a cultural significance that has waned during the 20th century, the Foundation said.
