Number Of Power Outages In Westchester Surges In Afternoon

More than 1,000 in Westchester and Putnam are now without power as heavy winds wreak havoc on trees and power lines in the region.

With winds between 20 and 30 mph and gusts topping 60 mph, Con Edison and NYSEG utility crews went to work on Monday afternoon, Feb. 25 to restore power in the area as branches, trees and power lines were strewn about.

Con Edison was reporting that 902 of its 348,198 Westchester customers were still without power as of 3:25 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Cortlandt was hit the hardest with 316 reported outages, followed by Greenburgh (297); Mount Pleasant (103); Ossining (65); Harrison (27) and Peekskill (23).

Other outages were reported in Bedford, Bronxville, Croton-on-Hudson, Mamaroneck, Mount Vernon, New Castle, New Rochelle, Pelham Manor, Rye Brook, Tarrytown, Yonkers and Yorktown. No official timetable has been announced by Con Ed for complete restoration.

NYSEG reputed that 473 of their 38,310 customers in Putnam and 346 of their Westchester customers are still in the dark.

The week is expected to bring wild weather to the area, with winds topping 30 mph and gusts reaching upwards of 65 mph. Temperatures are expected to drop during the week, with potential rain and snow coming later in the week.
