The village of Ardsley asked the town to sell the waterwheel property to an affordable housing developer which we did in 2013 for $1.21 million dollars 22 units would be built. 5 for volunteer firefighters, municipal workers and 17 to comply with the federal housing settlement.
The new residents of the multifamily dwelling have finally started to move in. The individual who deserves the most credit for this important accomplishment is Jay Leon, former Mayor of Ardsley. Mayor Leon started working on this cause a few years before the town actually sold the property to the developer. Mayor Leon showed significant leadership skills, persistence, hard work. Many elected officials would not have even tried. Jay reached out to residents of Ardsley, worked with the Volunteer Fire department members and kept pushing everyone to recognize the importance of this initiative.
Ardsley has satisfied the obligations of the federal housing lawsuit settlement with little controversy and the new residents will be able to enjoy a terrific quality of life living in a great community. The buildings are attractive, within walking distance to shopping and bus routes.
Jay Leon deserves the thanks of our community for making a big difference in the lives of the new residents of this affordable housing development.
