Learn to Eat Healthier at the Harvest Bounty

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Eating healthy is something that derails plenty of diet plans, which is what make can make it difficult for many. The South Church in Dobbs Ferry is aiming to ease that difficulty with a Harvest Bounty workshop this Saturday.

The workshop will teach traditional food arts, such as grinding grain, baking bread, saving seeds, roasting root vegetables, canning and preserving growing mushrooms and more. It’s being described as a way to eat healthier while saving money at the same time.

The classes are offered by Skills off the Grid and are sponsored by Roots & Wings, which is the sustainable living initiative of South Church.

“People are looking for do-it-yourself, hands-on know-how that our grandparents had but many of us have lost,” said Skills off the Grid found Cameron Kelly in the event description. “It’s also about building community and self-reliance, and increasing our ability to live creatively and sustainably.”

There will be three workshops throughout the day and locals can sign up for just one or stay for the whole day. The fee for one class is $15 and the fee for the whole afternoon is $35, which includes all three workshops.

In-depth descriptions of the classes and a list of who will be teaching each can be found on the Roots & Wings website.
