A man was saved from jumping off the side of the new Tappan Zee Bridge Tuesday afternoon after state police said they received numerous 911 calls from passing motorists.
The unidentified man drove onto the bridge around 3:26 p.m. and was attempting to climb the fence to get to the span area, where he told troopers he was going to jump, said Trooper Sgt. Matthew Izbicki.
Responding troopers were able to talk to the man and take him into custody before he could jump, Izbicki said.
The man, whose place of residence was not immediately known, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
