Environmental watchdog group Riverkeeper has filed a notice of intent to sue over an increase in the deaths of Hudson River sturgeon that it says have been caused by construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge, according to a story on lohud.com.
Both the New York State Thruway Authority and Tappan Zee Constructors LLC are specifically named in the notice, lohud.com said.
The organization said last month that 122 sturgeon, 46 this year alone, had been killed since work on the bridge started in 2012. In comparison, just six fish were reported dead in between 2008 and 2011, lohud.com said.
