Dobbs Ferry Updates Sandy Warnings, Information

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y - The Village of Dobbs Ferry updated information for preparations for Hurricane Sandy Sunday, including details on garbage and recycling pickup.

Dobbs Ferry Police closed the boat ramp at Waterfront Park at noon Sunday due to marine forecast predictions for a significant tidal surge of 6 to 12 feet. Major portions of the parking lot could be underwater if predictions are accurate. The lot will remain closed for safety and precautionary purposes until further notice, officials said.

The Department of Public Works is planning to pick up garbage Monday as normal. Residents are asked to collect empty bins and secure them as soon as possible after collection so they don't blow around once the winds arrive. Collection services for the balance of the week will be determined depending on conditions.

Residents are asked to tie down or secure any loose outdoor furniture and turn off and disconnect outdoor propane tanks. Those who plan to run a generator are warned not to use it indoors.

The village is asking residents to plan for the power to be out for a few days and to fill  bathtubs with water.

For emergencies, call 911 for police, fire or ambulance. For non-emergencies, call the Dobbs Ferry Police 693-5500 to report fallen trees, downed wires, blocked roads or other service related calls.

The Metro Transit Authority has announced suspension of all service beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday.
