It's April 15 and if you haven't filed and you owe the state or federal government taxes for 2013, you're late.
Ralph Winoker of Hartsdale said he filed online in February and received a small refund.
"I was out of work for three months then got a job in New York City last March," Winoker said. "I did a short form on line and got some money back. I'm sure I'll be paying next year, but I'm happy to be working."
Hastings-on-Hudson accountants Deena Grabowski and Mary Felenczak of Grabowski Associates, Inc. were busy filing extensions for some of their clients with noon approaching.
"We won't be doing much more than filing extensions (Tuesday)," Felenczak said. "The biggest concern for taxpayers is that they aren't audited. It's important not to wait until the last minute because that leads to mistakes."
Grabowski said having an accountant who is familiar with your finances do your return is the best method of dealing with taxes.
"People do file online but a having a professional do the return is the best way to go," Grabowski said. "And keeping good records helps a lot."
Felipe Rincon of Tarrytown said he filed his taxes last week and paid about $700 in federal and state taxes.
"It wasn't too bad," Rincon said. "I'm a waiter and I make a lot on tips so I have to claim that. I had to pay a little so I have to make it up."
