Herd, Retired Hastings Schools Worker, Dies at 91

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Helen Herd, a former longtime resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, died March 27. She was 91.

A resident of Hastings from 1946-90, Herd worked for Hastings Schools until her retirement in 1982. She was a former member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Hastings. Most recently of Mt. Pleasant, Herd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawthorne.

Herd was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 2007. She is survived by her sons, Walter and Robert (Jane); her daughters, Joan and Carol; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Beecher Funeral Home in Pleasantville. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Hastings-on-Hudson. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Church.
