Hastings' Agnes Fauerbach Turns 100 At Andrus Senior Care

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. --  Agnes Fauerbach enjoyed her 100th birthday celebration Saturday at the Andrus on Hudson Senior Care Community in Hastings-on-Hudson.

Fauerbach celebrated her centennial birthday with her daughter, Susan Downes, and a few other close family members.

Born Aug. 3, 1913, in New York City, Fauerbach she grew up with her five siblings and parents.  She married Marvin Fauerbach in 1938 and the couple raised three children; Michael, Susan and Ken. Marvin Fauerbach died in 1975. She also has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Agnes Fauerbach lived in the same house in Riverdale for 72 years, during which time she was an active member of St. Margaret’s Church. 

After graduating from Hunter College in New York, Fauerbach worked as a secretary at Ciba-Geigy in Ardsley then at the non-profit Joint Council for Economic Education which she jokingly referred to as “The Joint.”

At the age of 91, Fauerbach moved from her Riverdale home into an assisted living community. She has lived at Andrus on Hudson for the last year.

Andrus residents Anne Finkler and Sister Marie Elaine LaChance also turned 100 this summer.  Andrus is also home to three other residents over 100 years old, with 64 percent or the residents 85 years and older. The national nursing home average is approximately 40 percent of residents in this age category.
