Daily Voice: What's new for fall?
Susan Giordano: This year’s perfect fall face is a look of unstudied sophistication with polished skin and delicately flushed cheeks. Smokey eyes are chic and fashionable in unexpected shades of earthy brown. Velvety matte lips complete the picture: choose from modish nudes or elegant jewel tones.
DV: Who would you like to see stop by your shop?
SG: I love it when neighbors stop in to try some new colors or ask for advice on how to solve particular beauty problems. I enjoy sharing intimate knowledge of my products and how to correctly use them for the best results.
DV: You made your name as a makeup artist, but I see you’ve created artisanal skin care products as well.
SG: We have a full range of skin care items — so even if a woman is not inclined to wear makeup, we have something for her. Skin care is something I consider non-negotiable.
I believe it’s never too early or too late to start an effective skin care routine. I have many loyal customers in their 70’s and 80’s. On the flip side, I think it’s important that young women learn about skin care and how to put themselves together. Many of my customers bring their daughters in: some of them are in the 12 to 13 age range and I can help them select age appropriate products; some are a little older and are ready for something a little more sophisticated.
DV: Should I send my husband in to shop for me?
SG: Beauty is so personal, but do send him over. We have gift certificates, a full range of bath and body products, as well as fragrances --so we have something for everyone. A lot of my customers regularly shop for gifts at my store.
DV: What is the key to your success?
SG: Every woman wants to look fresher, younger and prettier while still looking like themselves. I have always had a knack for making beauty approachable.
