HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N. Y.  -- Approximately 700 people descended upon Harvest on Hudson and its surrounding lawn for the inaugural "Farm Fest," a new partnership between the Hastings restaurant and Lohudfood.

The free festival, held April 26, featured 27 vendors spanning the realm from breweries to wineries, creameries to farmers. All offered samples, kind of like a huge farmers market. There was also live music and giveaways.

Harvest on Hudson which normally isn't open on Sundays for lunch or brunch, created a special menu where folks enjoyed alfresco dining and/or lounging at the bar. Mostly, there was lots of snacking and tasting and taking in the river view.

Janine Guastella, acting manager of the restaurant, said the event was a great way to kick off spring. "People started arriving as early as 11:15 a.m. even though the event didn't officially start until noon," she said.

Hastings resident, Kelly Piscitello was one of many residents who was glad she came, especially as the sun was finally shining.

Connie Gallo and daughter, Brianna, of Ardsley, agreed. "It's a nice display they have here," she said. "We enjoyed the tastings of new items, like the pickled vegetables, jams, brownies and we tried some new breweries like Yonkers Brewery."

Betsy Rich, owner of Briarcliff Manor-based Rich Brownies was thrilled to show off her wares. "The timing was perfect because the season is just starting," she said. "If they do it next year, I'd say yes in a heartbeat."
