Dog Dies, 20 Displaced After House Fire Breaks Out In Chestnut Ridge
Some 20 people escaped a roaring fire at a Hudson Valley home that was reportedly being used as an illegal rooming house, but a dog perished. The fire started in Rockland County around 9:30 p.m., Sunday, in the village of Chestnut Ridge at 510 Chestnut Ridge Road. When Spring Valley firefighters arrived on the scene numerous residents were in the home, but all were able to escape safely, except for the dog, said the Ramapo Police Department. UPDATE: A 59-year-old gasoline tanker truck driver from Paterson was killed in a massive fireball during a crash on Route 287 near the New York State border in Mahwah early Saturday, New Jersey State Police confirmed. Woman Driving Drunk Crashes Into Utility Pole On Route 202 In Suffern
An allegedly inebriated woman drove her vehicle into and up a utility pole off Route 202 in Rockland County, according to police. The incident happened on the evening of Monday, Aug. 17, the Suffern Police Department said. The pole was damaged in the incident. The identity of the woman, a Maryland resident who was charged with a DWI, and the exact time of the incident were not released. The Suffern Police Department was assisted by the Suffern and Tallman fire departments.

Firefighters Rush From Rockland Brush Blaze To Mahwah House Fire
Mahwah firefighters were helping their colleagues from Hillburn, Sloatsburg and Tallan douse a brush fire in a remote wooded area of Rockland on Sunday when a house fire broke out nearby in town. The fire, which originated in the kitchen, was quickly knocked down, although it did cause some damage. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Ramsey, Franklin Lakes, Allendale, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River and Suffern. No injuries were reported. Firefighters battled a Monday afternoon blaze fueled by a propane tank in the rear of a Mahwah home at the New York border. The fire was reported around 3:20 p.m. on Doremus Road in Mahwah just off East Crescent Avenue (which becomes Church Road in NY), barely 500 yards from the Airmont line. Police in Ramapo are seeking the public’s assistance as they search for a wanted man who is wanted on charges dating back to an incident last month.
