A Hudson Valley school bus driver has been charged with allegedly endangering the welfare of children after he intentionally slammed the brakes sending students flying. The incident took place in Ulster County around 8 a.m. Thursday, April 13, in the town of Ulster. The former owner of a local bus repair and transportation company has been sentenced to time in prison for fraud, bribery and theft. Richard Brega, who owned Brega D.O.T. Maintenance Corp. in Rockland County, has been sentenced to 50 months in prison after he was found guilty by a federal jury in White Plains, following a three-week trial. The convictions were for Brega’s billing the Rockland Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) for maintenance of school buses that were never performed, and bribery of a Rockland BOCES official. State's First Electric School Buses Unveiled In Hudson Valley
The first all-electric school buses have rolled out on the streets of Westchester. The White Plains School District is testing out five buses that will be operated through National Express, marking the state's first foray into an electric fleet of buses. The 100-percent electric buses will get an estimated 66 miles on a full battery charge, and drivers will be able to track battery life through their cell phones. Two School Buses Involved In Area Crash
About 20 students and a couple of adults are being evaluated following a crash between two school buses at the intersection of Route 311 and North Terry Hill Road in the Hamlet of Lake Carmel in the Town of Kent. Bus Company In Area To Lay Off More Than 160
More than 160 jobs face elimination at the end of June following the announcement that First Student Bus Company had lost its contract with the Pine Bush School District. The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on April 3, which notified the state that 166 employees would be laid off as of June 29. The notice also said the Depot Street plant would close. First Student listed the “loss of Pine Bush School District contract to Birnie Bus” as the reason for the elimination of jobs.
