24-Year-Old Busted Driving Stolen Truck In Hudson Valley, Police Say An out-of-state man was caught driving a stolen truck in the Hudson Valley, authorities said. State police in Ulster County stopped the vehicle at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, as it drove south on Highway 209 in the town of Wawarsing. While talking with the driver, 24-year-old Jonathen Wright, of Newaygo, Michigan (located in Western Michigan just north of Grand Rapids), troopers determined that the 2001 GMC 3500 had been reported stolen from Newport News, Virginia. Drunk Driver From Region Crashes Into Barn, Police Say A man from the region was arrested for driving drunk after hitting a parked car and then slamming into a barn. The incident took place in Monroe County in Rochester around 11:40 p.m., Wednesday, May 4 on Washington Street. Sullivan County resident Matthew Goldsmith, age 31, of Kauneonga Lake, was arrested after he allegedly drove his GMC pickup truck through an intersection and into a driveway, said Lt. Brian Unterborn, of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Brake Problem Prompts Recall Of 10 GM Models General Motors has recalled more than 200,000 Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC vehicles due to an issue with the brake system that may increase the risk of a potential crash. The affected vehicles - 10 different models in all - are equipped with brakes with defective pistons. Hydrogen gas from the defective pistons can be released into the brake system, causing hazards for motorists. If gas is present in the brake system, motorists will experience a “soft or spongy” feel when applying the brake to the pedal, even though stopping distances may not be affected.
