HS Student Wins $20K In Hudson Valley: 'Will Change World One Day' A high school student from Northern Westchester has received a $20,000 scholarship after being named a 2023 Coca-Cola Scholar.  Matthew Krasnow, a student at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, is one of only 150 students across the entire country to receive the scholarship and was picked out of more than 91,000 applicants, according to the Bedford Central School District.  Krasnow was picked based on criteria such as academic excellence, leadership skills, and services in both school and community activities, school officials said. Hudson Valley Man Killed In Double-Fatal Crash ID'd As First Responder One of the victims of a wrong-way head-on double fatal crash on the Palisades Parkway was a Northern Westchester County emergency medical technician.  Aristan Garandeau, age 22, of Croton-on-Hudson, died around 2:40 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 6 in Clarkstown, said the New York State Police. Garandeau was traveling in the wrong direction on the parkway when he hit another car head-on driven by Brendan Seabrook, 27, of Pennsylvania, who was also killed, said state police. Fasny Scholarship Awarded To Rockland Student, Volunteer Firefighter The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York has awarded the 2018 FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship to a student from Rockland County. Sara Ferraro of West Nyack received a certificate and college scholarship of $1,500 for her volunteer service as an EMT with the New City Volunteer Ambulance Youth Corps from Chan Rivera, member of the FASNY Board of Directors. “I have a passion for helping people, and joining the ambulance corps gave me a platform to pursue this passion," Ferraro said.
