Mixed Opinions On Potential Ramapo Central Name Change

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Officials in the Ramapo Central school district could decide next month whether to seek permission from the state to change the district’s name to Suffern Central, making it distinct from East Ramapo, lohud.com reported.

Tuesday's school board hearing drew people for and against the idea, said lohud.com.

A reason among longtime residents opposing the idea is taking "Ramapo" out of the name could be a "blow to the area's heritage," said lohud.

The proposed plan came up last fall when the district's strategic plan work was underway, a matter administration, board members, faculty and the community were involved in, according to board President Theresa DiFalco, the report said.
