No-Shave November is a month-long nationwide initiative in which participants forgo shaving and grooming in order to raise cancer awareness, especially for men who often ignore having a yearly physical exam.

To take part in the effort, each officer donated a minimum of $75 to participate and agreed that all the proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Osborn said.

"Thanks to Mayor Ed Markunas who gave the okay for the facial hair, our officers will be able to raise funds to help others in need," he added.

Osborn added that the officers enjoy taking part in the event and it becomes quite a competition. So far they have raised $3,360.

Since its inception, nationwide the No-Shave November campaign has successfully raised more than $3.5 million dollars to combat cancer. Every dollar raised is used to fund cancer research and education, help prevent the disease, and aid those fighting the battle.

Some of the organizations funded by the initiative include the American Cancer Society, the Prevent Cancer Foundation, St. Jude Children's Hospital and Fight Colorectal Cancer.
