SUFFERN N.Y. -- Police responded Friday to an apartment on Berkeley Square in Suffern on Friday to a distraught man who was threatening his own life and claimed he had guns in his apartment.
After a lengthy standoff, the situation was peacefully resolved around 5 a.m.
Suffern Police received assistance from the Ramapo Police Department and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Patrol in responding to the call. Police evacuated residents and secured the perimeter of the building, according to a statement issued Monday by Suffern Police.
Officers made contact with man, a military veteran, and sent a robot inside the apartment. The robit relayed video to a SWAT team, and it showed the man in possession of handguns and in good physical condition.
The man was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
