That's why the department has been busy selling T-shirts to help the families of the officers slain July 7 in Dallas.

To date, they have sold almost 800 T-shirts for $20 each, and have just ordered more to sell in front of the police department from 3-7 p.m. Friday, July 22.

"We have to help each other and let them know we stand together," Osborn said.

This isn't the first time the department has helped other departments. In 2014, his department raised more than $20,000 for two slain New York City police officer's families.

Now, with the slaughter of three more police officers July 17 in Baton Rouge, La., Osborn said the department probably will be doing the same thing again in the near future.

But all is not gloom and doom at the department. Osborn said a good thing has happened while his officers were busy raising money to help others — the community has come out in force to show their support for the department.

"It's unbelievable the number of residents who have stopped by to drop off food and to thank us," he said. "It really means a lot to the officers and to myself."

Sure, he said his officers are very upset by the "senseless ambushes," but are doing well on patrol.

"I'm sure all police officers are being more cautious these days," he said.
