Ramapo Traffic Stop Nets 13 Bags Of Heroin, Police Say

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Police who pulled over two people in the village of Sloatsburg for speeding Tuesday say they found 13 bags of heroin in their car.

The unidentified pair were stopped on Route 17 in the village by the Ramapo police’s anti-crime unit.

The driver was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and the passenger, with possessing hypodermic needles and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Both suspects were from Norwich in upstate Chenango County, police said.

They posted bail and are to appear in Sloatsburg Court to answer the charges, police said.

Police answered 104 calls for service Tuesday including 15 alarms, one fire, five medical emergencies and one burglary.

They responded to nine vehicle accidents, two of which involved injuries.

Those accidents happened at: Francis Place, Monsey; Chestnut Ridge Road, Chestnut Ridge; North Airmont Road, Tallman; Route 17, Sloatsburg; Route 202, Ramapo; Maple Avenue, Kaser; and Saddle River Road, North Airmont Road and Brookside Avenue, all in Airmont.
