Ramapo Police Respond To Structure Fire In Monsey

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police responded to a fire about 10:30 a.m. Monday on Calvert Drive in Monsey.

A multifamily dwelling was on fire when crews arrived, and all occupants had evacuated safely. The Monsey Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, which started on the ground level and began spreading to the upper levels. 

The following agencies assisted: Tallman Fire Department, Hillcrest Fire Department, Thiells Fire Department, Ramapo Valley Ambulance and Rockland Paramedics. There were no reported injuries to civilians or emergency responders. 

The Rockland County fire coordinator responded along with Ramapo’s code enforcement, building and fire inspectors. Ramapo detectives and the Rockland County Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the fire.

On Monday, Ramapo police handled 128 calls, including 14 alarm activations, 11 medical emergencies and two fires. Ramapo police responded to 11 motor vehicle accidents. They occurred at the following locations: Grove Street-Monsey, Money Boulevard-Monsey, College Road-Monsey, Saddle River Road-Monsey, Montebello Commons Drive-Montebello, Chestnut Ridge Road-Chestnut Ridge, Route 59-Hillburn, Viola Road-Hillcrest, Bell Court-Airmont, Route 45-NE Ramapo and Rita Avenue-Kaser. One accident involved injuries, and one accident was a hit-and-run.
