A Ramapo police officer stopped to check on a car at 11 p.m. on the side of a road in Hillcrest, police said.
The engine was running with the keys in the ignition, and the driver was reportedly passed out in the driver’s seat, according to police.
The officer investigated and determined that the driver, a female, 22, of Hillcrest, had allegedly driven the vehicle while intoxicated, said police.
She was charged with driving while intoxicated and processed at Ramapo police headquarters, according to police.
She must return to Ramapo Court later this month to answer the charge, said police.
Ramapo police handled 144 calls Tuesday, including the following, according to police:
- 19 alarm activations.
- One medical emergency.
- Two fires.
- Five arrests.
The arrests were for the following charges, according to police:
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance.
- Driving while intoxicated.
- Vehicle and traffic offenses.
- One warrant.
Ramapo police handled 16 motor vehicle accidents in the following locales, said police:
- Viola (5).
- Hillcrest (4).
- Airmont (3).
- Monsey.
- Spring Valley.
- New Square.
- Pomona.
One accident involved injuries; one was a hit-and-run, according to police.
