RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A Suffern man who was parked in the Indian Rock Shopping Center in the Village of Montebello was charged with possession of drugs Thursday after officers smelled marijuana in his car, police said.
The unidentified 26-year-old was charged after a Ramapo police officer noticed a suspicious car parked in the empty lot around 10 p.m. and investigated to see if anyone was inside, police said.
When the officer approached the car he noticed that the interior "reeked" of marijuana. The man turned over 7.7 grams to the officer, police said.
A check of the man's driver's license found that he had been convicted of a DWI and was supposed to have an interlock device installed in his vehicle, which he did not have, police added.
He was charged with possession of marijuana and circumventing an interlock device and released. He is scheduled to appear in court in May.
