SLOATSBURG, N.Y. -- Four dogs and a cat were killed in a house fire Monday in the Sloatsburg, Ramapo police said.
Police said they received a call around 5:30 p.m. about smoke coming from a house on Lincoln Street in the village.
No residents were inside the house at the time of the fire, police said.
Sloatsburg firefighters put the blaze out but were unable to save the family pets.
Emergency medical crews and firefighters tried to revive two of the dogs by giving them CPR, police said.
Also responding to the scene were firefighters from the Tuxedo, Hillburn, and Tallman departments.
Assisting were the Sloatburg Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Ramapo Police Department’s Investigations Division and the Rockland County BCI-Arson Unit.
