“I know people from all walks of life in Rockland, from various towns and villages, and of various backgrounds,” Wieder said. “Most of our residents are decent people who care about their families and their communities. They would never engage in this type of behavior."
A resident called police about 1:55 a.m. Monday to report that someone had painted the words "No Jews" in front of the two homes that are both for sale and have real estate signs in the front yards, said Detective Lt. Mark Emma.
The graffiti was spray-painted in orange paint in front of the signs on the street, Emma said.
Emma said that although the department had not reported the matter to the local Jewish Federation of Rockland County, it would vigorously investigate the case.
“Unfortunately, there is a small group that has engaged in hate,” Wieder said. “It is up to the rest of us to stand as one in the face of this repugnant belief system and behavior. I know the majority of county residents join with me in condemning these actions.”
