And the effort is still going strong. Bottled water is still being collected, and will continue even after the large shipment heads out Thursday, lohud.com reported.

What started out as a challenge between a group of Rockland County friends has turned into a huge effort to deliver clean water to an area dealing with water contaminated by lead, lohud.com said.

Organizers of Project 845 are collecting water and money to help truck the water to Flint, lohud.com reported.
