Ramapo Police Ramp Up Storm Response

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A windy and rainy storm that blew through the area this week had Ramapo police hopping as they responded to multiple reports of trees and wires down.

Among the locations police said they had to secure were Spook Rock Road, White Birch Drive, Mayer Drive, Laurel Road, Route 17, Dawn Lane, Smith Hill Road, White Pine, College Road and South Mountain Road.

Extra officers remained on patrol throughout the storm to make sure that police resources were not diminished during that time, they said.

On Thursday, Ramapo police investigated 10 accidents at the following locations: Ramapo Cirque in Montebello; Blauvelt Road in Monsey; Campbell Avenue in Suffern Park; West Maple Avenue in Kaser; Viola Road in Viola; New Hempstead Road and Route 59 in Airmont; and North Main Street in New Square. Three of the accidents involved injuries, police said.

Also on Thursday, Ramapo police handled 165 calls for service including 10 medical emergencies, 20 alarm activations, two fires and four arrests for charges including unlawful possession of marijuana, vehicle and traffic offenses, and local warrants.
