Naturalization Ceremony In Rockland Honors 'Go Red For Women'

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Rockland County Clerk Paul Piperato will host a special "Go Red for Women", Naturalization Ceremony on Friday, Feb. 5, at the Fire Training Center.

Piperato will administer the Oath of Allegiance to 129 new citizens from 40 different countries. The auditorium will be decorated in festive red and many participants will be decked out in red-colored clothing. The ceremony is themed as part of a national public awareness day held on the first Friday each February which urges people to “go red” to bring attention to the leading killers of women – heart disease and stroke.

U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, whose district includes parts of Rockland, will be the keynote speaker and Rockland County Executive Ed Day will offer welcoming remarks. Victor J. Alfieri, Jr. will serve as the officiating Supreme Court fustice.

In addition to the ceremony, heart transplant recipients and public advocates Lauren Shields and Roxanne Watson will speak on behalf of the New York Organ Donor Network and Veritas, the Albertus Magnus High School honor choir, will perform several patriotic songs.
