NAACP Criticizes E. Ramapo School Monitor For Remarks

EAST RAMAPO, N.Y. – East Ramapo Schools’ monitor Dennis Walcott said the ruling from the Office of Civil Rights about the district was complex and unclear about whether the district had discriminated against Black and Latino children, reported lohud.com.

Walcott made the comments in an interview on “The Capitol Pressroom” on WCNY, the story said. He was responding a question about the office's review of NAACP’s complaints of racial discrimination, which resulted in the district agreeing to improve their policies via a 12-point plan, and to allow federal monitoring, the story said.

NAACP president Willie Trotman wrote he understood Walcott wants to present East Ramapo’s schools in the best way, but that his comments undermined legitimate concerns about the problems in the school district, lohud.com reported.
