Lawmaker Proposes Ward System For East Ramapo Schools

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Voting in East Ramapo's school board elections could change from townwide balloting to a district-by-district vote, a consideration suggested by Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski, D-New City, says lohud.com.

Zebrowski proposed the idea on a public radio broadcast, "The Capitol Pressroom," according to the article.

The remarks come on the heels of a panel recommendation Dec. 14 to make improvements in the Rockland County district. One of these is to make a law that a public school student's parent must serve on the school board, lohud.com says.

Changes to the composition of the school board has met with strong disapproval by its members, lohud.com reports. The board is mainly composed of members of the Orthodox Jewish community, according to the report.
