The school board is controlled by Orthodox Jews, who have been accused of directing resources to the private schools at the expense of the district's public school students, said Lohud.com.
A three-person state board, headed by former New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott, spent five months studying the problems in East Ramapo and recently offered 19 reforms, including urging the state Legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to install a state monitor with power to veto the school board's decisions, reported the news source.
