MariEllyn Dykstra-Donnellan, whose parents opened the shop in 1960, said the business will merge with Schweitzer's Florist in Pearl River, reported Lohud.com.

Saying it was an emotional move for her -- the family even has a street named after them -- Dykstra-Donnellan said the area is showing its age and many of the longtime customers have left the area, the story said.

With a leaking building that needs lots of work, she said when an offer to buy the land came from a national development company last year, she accepted, the story said.
