SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. – North Main Street shipping company and restaurant Caribreeze sends around 250 barrels full of clothing and food for customers to families and friends in the Caribbean islands, according to lohud.com.

Because necessities in America are fairly inexpensive, ones like canned and packaged goods make up most of what is shipped. The containers might also contain such luxuries as shampoo, soap and perfume, even a fake Christmas tree, according to a shipping customer, lohud.com said.

Caribreeze serves the counties of Rockland and Orange, and areas in northern New Jersey. Another business, Dennis Shipping in the Bronx and Brooklyn, ships hundreds of barrels daily, though the shipping tradition is also very common among small businesses throughout Lower Hudson Valley, lohud.com.

It dates back to the middle of the 1960s when West Indian immigrants settled in the Lower Hudson Valley and northern Bronx, says lohud.com
