Ken was born May 25, 1936 in the Bronx, the son of Nathan and Jeanette (Fisherman) Allen. He graduated from Morris High School and then entered the army. He served in Germany during the Korean war from 1954 to 1956 as a radio operator. On Sept. 5, 1929, the New York Yankee legend and his pinstriped-teammates traveled to the prison for an exhibition against the inmate team, which included some of the most hardened and dangerous criminals in America.
