These Putnam School Districts Named Best Communities For Music Education Several school districts in Westchester and Putnam counties are being recognized as amongst the best in the entire nation for music education.  A total of 10 school districts across both counties have been named winners of the Best Communities for Music Education Award for 2024 by the NAMM Foundation.  These districts are some of only 975 across the country to receive the award, which recognizes "outstanding" efforts from teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who make sure students can include music as part of their education, according to th…

Northern Westchester HS Senior Ranked Top Cellist In New York State: 'Incredibly Proud' A high school senior from Northern Westchester has earned state-wide recognition for her musical chops. Cameron Bly, a senior at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, won the principal cellist seat at the All-State Orchestra Winter Conference held in Rochester by the New York State School Music Association, Bedford Central School District officials announced on Wednesday, Dec. 6.  This win officially names Bly as the top-ranking cellist in the state of New York, according to the district. "We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment!" district officials said.

Hudson Valley Woman Who Was Highly-Regarded Educator, Musician Dies At Age 62 Maura Molloy’s life was defined by music. Now, the Westchester County educator and musician’s loved ones must rely on the many video recordings of her performances if they hope to again experience her bright, angelic singing voice. Molloy, of Rye, died at home Monday, Aug. 1, at the age of 62 following a “long and courageous battle with lung cancer,” according to her obituary. “Gracing this world with her presence” on June 18, 1960, Molloy was the oldest of seven children born to Joan and Joseph Molloy, her memorial said.
