The Milan and Red Hook fire department responded to the fire around 1:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 11 at a home located at 345 Fitzsimmons Road, in Milan on the Columbia County Line with Dutchess County, said the Milan Fire Department. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke and heavy fire from the ground through the roof, the department said. Lightning Strike Burns Electrical Panel At Area Home An intense thunderstorm over the weekend in the Rhinebeck area kept firefighters on the run, especially when a house was struck by lightning. The incident took place around 2:56 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, on Montgomery Street off Route 9 in Rhinebeck, said Rhinebeck Fire Department Spokesman Jeff Cotter. Arriving crews encountered smoke showing from the eaves of the home and a significant amount of smoke throughout the house, Cotter said. Red Hook Police Officer Rescues Overdose Victim A Red Hook police officer will be honored with a Life-Saving Award after reviving a Columbia County man who was overdosing in a car. The incident took place on Saturday, June 1, when Red Hook Officer James Simmons responded to a call on Route 9/Fraleigh Lane in the Town of Red Hook for an unconscious male slumped over the steering wheel not breathing, the department said on Facebook.
