Man Assaults Officer With Vehicle During Pursuit, Police Say A Newtown Police officer was injured earlier this month while attempting to apprehend a man in what began as a routine traffic stop. The incident unfolded on Sunday, Oct. 7, when Newtown officers attempted to stop John Paul Suero of Danbury for having license plates that did not match the vehicle, the department said in a press release.  While attempting to stop the vehicle, Suero took off with officers in pursuit. Road Closures, Detours In Place During Police Standoff North Of I-84 A man who held police at bay for more than 14 hours was arrested after striking a Connecticut State Trooper while surrendering to police.  During a search of his home, troopers found numerous weapons. The incident began around 2 a.m. Monday when state police, along with Southbury officers, responded to a domestic violence call at the home of Joseph Michael Stotz, 38, of Southbury, said Trooper Kelly Grant.
