The Warriors struck first, going up 7-0 on a 27-yard TD pass from QB Nick Gastin to Corey Mulalley.
But Brewster responded with 20 unanswered points - including a 53-yard TD run and another 35--yard touchdown, on a pick six in the fourth quarter from Bears QB/FS Jack Guida. Henry Terry had Brewster's other score on a three-yard run.
Lourdes came in banged up - an injury kept one of the team's top players, Joe Scaglione, on the sidelines - and things only got worse for last year's Class A finalist, when Gastin left the game with an injury before halftime. Senior Paul Holz took over at QB from there, but the Warrions never got any real momentum going against Brewster's defense in the second half.
Meanwhile Brewster's confidence soared as the game went on.
Lourdes is coached by former Brewster longtime coach Brian Walsh, who guided the Bears to two state championship game appearances - in 1997 and 1999 - and also reached the Carrier Dome last season Lourdes.
Walsh was 166-79-6 in 26 years at Brewster - which had endured 16 consecutive losing seasons prior to Walsh's arrival there.
Walsh took over a struggling program in John Jay East Fishkill in 2005, transforming the Patriots into a program that is still thriving - seven years after he made the move to Lourdes.
