The Brewster Board of Education announced that following an extensive search, they have appointed Laurie Bandlow as the Superintendent at the Brewster Central School District.
Bandlow comes to the district from Paulsboro, New Jersey, where she has been superintendent since 2015. She will take over in Brewster as of Aug. 1.
Returning to the Hudson Valley something of a homecoming for Bandlow, who was raised in Warwick and began her teaching career in her hometown district. Her great-grandmother, a first-grade teacher in Montgomery, were among the key reasons she became an educator, Bandlow said.
“Through my visits and conversations, it’s become very clear to me that Brewster is a very special place,” Bandlow said. “I know that working with the Board of Education, parents, teachers, and administrators, we can make a difference in the lives of children.”
Before taking over as superintendent in Paulsboro, Bandlow served as an elementary school and middle school principal in Howell, N.J. and later as a teacher and assistant principal as the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District in Princeton.
Board of Education President Sonia Mesika said that Bandlow has demonstrated strengths in working with the community at large as well as the school community.
“She is a good listener who values the opinions of all stakeholders, especially when making decisions that affect many people for the long term,” she said. “We believe her flexibility, vision and collaborative and caring nature will be a good fit for Brewster.”
