COLD SPRING, N.Y. -- Embattled former FOX News CEO Roger Ailes, a Garrison resident, announced he is withdrawing his $500,000 donation for a senior center at the Butterfield development.

Ailes, who was recently ousted from his role at FOX News in July following allegations of sexual harassment made by former anchor Gretchen Carlson, made the announcement in the Putnam County News and Recorder, which he owns and his wife Elizabeth serves as publisher.

"Mr. and Mrs. Ailes said the government approvals to make the senior center in Philipstown a reality took longer than World War II," reported the Putnam County News and Recorder. "They indicated several charities had reached out to them about the half million dollars."

The Putnam County Legislator voted Tuesday to table legislation accepting Ailes' donation and having him oversee the construction following complaints from residents who didn't want his name on the center following the allegations. The Putnam County Legislator had recently reversed a law barring buildings from being named after living people to name the center after Ailes.

Ailes’ nonprofit organization would have served as the project’s general contractor, hiring its construction manager and subcontractors from the county without public bidding, according to LoHud. Employees would not have been required to be paid a prevailing wage and Ailes would deliver the project with no warranty and no obligation to pay employees who disputed their payment, according to LoHud.
