Nicolas Dename, 36, was charged with first-degree falsifying business records, a felony, and third-degree falsely reporting an incident, after he called 911 and reported that cash and prescription medications were stolen from his home by two men, police say.

An investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Uniform Force and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office revealed Dename fabricated the story, according to officials.

Dename was arraigned in Kent Town Court and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail or $30,000 bond. He is due in Patterson Town Court on Thursday, police say.
