A 31-year-old man was charged with assault after stabbing a man with a pair of scissors then choking him to the point of unconsciousness, according to state police.

Troopers responded to the incident in Dutchess County on Scarborough Lane in Wappinger at approximately 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25.

According to a police investigation, Michael Valentin, of Wappinger, used a pair of scissors to stab an individual who walked away from a verbal argument with him before Valentin choked that individual.

The victim was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Valentin was charged with the felonies of:
  • second-degree assault,
  • third-degree criminal possession of a weapon,
  • second-degree strangulation.

He was released on a $5,000, and will return to the Town of Wappinger Court next month for sentencing.
