The arrest was the result of an investigation into the burglary of a Mahopac residence from which jewelry was stolen, officials report.

During the investigation, the jewelry was located and recovered after multiple search warrants were executed at locations in the Bronx and Brooklyn, according to police.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested the suspect, identified as Mikheil Kapanadze, on Wednesday; he was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, police report.

The defendant was arraigned before Carmel Town Justice Joseph Spofford and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond, pending a court appearance on Tuesday, officials report.

If found guilty of the felony charge, the defendant could face up to 15 years in a New York state correctional facility and a fine of up to $15,000.
