On Tuesday, Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith announced that following a joint investigation between his agency and the Kent Police Department, Kent resident Ernest Morrissey, 37, has been arrested and charged with a felony charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

During the investigation - which was launched following a report of a credit card that was stolen from a motor vehicle - law enforcement officials determined that Morrissey was in possession of the credit card while in Carmel, prompting intervention from the Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Morrissey was charged and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in Town of Carmel Justice Court on Monday, Jan. 9. If he is found guilty he faces up to a year in prison and $1,000 fine.
