At about 1:19 a.m., Deputy Ronald Yeager was patrolling along U.S. Route 9 in Philipstown when he pulled over a car for having an excessively loud muffler. During the course of the stop, the deputy ran a computer check on the driver, Benjamin Franklin Stine, 24, which revealed that he was wanted on a bench warrant issued in Pennsylvania for a probation violation, said Capt. William McNamara.
The Sheriff’s Office communicated with Pennsylvania authorities, who said they would extradite Stine back to the state on the warrant, McNamara added.
Further investigation revealed that Stine was in possession of a stolen and loaded .32 caliber revolver, an illegal gravity knife, hypodermic needles, and quantities of substances suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana, McNamara said.
Stine was charged him with felony criminal possession of a weapon, felony criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a weapon, criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana, in addition to traffic violations.
He is being held at the Putnam County Jail on $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
