Brewster, Carmel Men Charged With Selling Heroin

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two men were charged with selling heroin and may have involved their own children in the operation on Tuesday, July 1, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department said.

George Bushell, 54, of Brewster and Jeffrey Pepper, 37, of Carmel were arrested following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit. Officers allege that just prior to pulling over the vehicle with Pepper and Bushell inside, the two men handed bags of heroin to their daughters in the backseat, the Sheriff's Department said. 

Bushell was arrested and was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, one count of criminal sale of a controlled substance to a child, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. He was sent to Putnam County Correctional Facility without bail, police said. 

Pepper was taken into custody and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and was released on $10,000 bail, according to officials.
