Mahopac's Joseph Bellucci, Teacher, Coach, War Veteran, Dies At 86

MAHOPAC, N.Y. – Mahopac native Joseph Anthony Bellucci died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, July 19, 2014, in Pawling, N.Y.

Joe was born on February 12, 1928 in Mahopac to Antonio and Maria Bellucci. He grew up in Mahopac on Buckshollow Road with his parents and sisters Ada and Viola, and his brother Anthony (Tony). He attended the Mahopac Schools where he made many boyhood friends; these friends remained with him throughout his entire life.

After high school, he attended SUNY College at Cortland. He served in the Army during the Korean War where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and received the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB).

He met his wife and the love of his life, Jill (Coe) whom he married on Dec. 18, 1954.

Joe taught and coached for 36 years in the Mahopac School District. During that time, he and Jill raised 10 children on Watermelon Hill Road with many  friends and neighbors.They were also committed members of the St. John’s Parish.

Joe is survived by his wife, Jill, and children: Mary Jean Perry (Paul), Joe Bellucci (Jeannine), Clare Glassberg (Lee), Jane Lawrence (Rick), John Bellucci (Kathy), James Bellucci (Patty), Mike Bellucci (Helena), and Annie Bellucci. He was predeceased by his daughter Rose Marie and his son Peter.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Wil, Clare Marie, Joey, Katie, Dan, Andrew, Elissa, Julia, Karla, Susanna, Ronnie, Rose Marie, Theresa, Giovanna, Jill Ann, Ashley, John, Johnnie, Jenny, Matt, David, James, Lauren, Michael, Paul, Thomas, Jane, Todd, and Joe, and his three great-grandchildren: Aidan, Giuliana Rose and Harper Grace.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one's choice would is appreciated.

Visitation will be held at Horn & Thomes Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, N.Y., on Friday, July 25 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with an American Legion service at 6:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at St. John’s Church, Pawling, on Saturday, July 26 at 10 a.m.
